GLÜCKAUF KUMPEL! ABSCHIED VON DER STEINKOHLE IN DEUTSCHLAND- Bottrop

Germany Closes It’s Last Active Coal Mine, Ending of 200-Year-Old Industry.

Description

Germany witnessed the end of an era. A team of dusty miners brought up the last lumps of hard coal mined in the country from the Prosper-Haniel Mine in Bottrop, in the heart of Germany’s Industrial Northwest. It’s a bittersweet farewell for an area already down on its luck. The 54 members of the WDR orchestra performed together with the 92 vocalists Ruhrkohle Choir, members of the mine brigade as well as coal miners, the famous “STEIGERLIED” and a musical composition was written to a tribute film by Werner Kubny, in honor of the passionate miners.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker attended in Bottrop to bid farewell to this era of Germany’s economy.

The team of De Vries + Partners GmbH supported camera director Philip Gassmann and was responsible for the stage management, styling and decoration.
